J: Who were your favorite singers when you were young ? A: .Paul WilliamsADavid Ruffin, Sam Cooke, , Bobby Womack, Dunny Hathaway, all guys there, Danny Hathaway ...
and most of those guys......J: I think you still keep in touch with Bobby Womack, but when did you see him for the very
first time ?A: Very first time I saw Bobby Womack ... I guess when I was living in Birmingham Alabama, he came to the studio when I was working with Gravy Train and Frederick Knight. He came to the studio to record. That was the first time when I met him. But he didn't remember of that. It was 1972. J: At that time, did Bobby Womack come to the studio to record with Frederick Knight ? A: Well, we were in the studio for recording with Frederick Knight . Bobby came in the studio one night to record something, I don't know if it was with Frederick Knight or something on Bobby's album. So I happened to meet him when he came down to the studio for recording. J: So, you don't mean you and Frederick Knight and Bobby Womack recorded together. A: No, no. J: Back in '88 when you sang "Harry Hippie" with Bobby Womack in his show, I told you that your way of singing sounded close to Bobby, and I think you were saying you learned a lot from Bobby Womack since you were very small, but you didn't mean you learned from him privately, but just from listening to his music ? A: Right.
